Title and ownership information
Locate the current title if the vehicle is paid off and check every owner name. If the title is electronic or held by a lender, ask what release process applies.
Lender payoff details
For a financed vehicle, bring the lender name, account information requested by the dealer, a current payoff quote, and the lender's payment instructions.
Vehicle and identity records
Have valid identification, registration, VIN, current odometer reading, service records, both keys, and any documents for warranties or equipment you intend to transfer.
Sale and Washington reporting records
Prepare the buyer or dealership name and address, license plate number, VIN, sale date, and sale price for Washington's Vehicle Report of Sale (TD-420-062). Remove the plates and file the report within five business days unless the purchasing dealer files it for you.
Confirm the filing even when a dealer handles it. Keep the Report of Sale receipt or online confirmation with signed copies of the purchase agreement and payment or payoff records.
